For golfers, Orange County is a slice of heaven
Sports is big in The OC, where you'll find everything from MLB baseball and NHL Hockey to professional surfing contests, abundant outdoor activities and premier golf courses. We've devised a day-trip itinerary that's right up the alley of any sports fan.
Anaheim, Anaheim Hills
Play 18 holes at Anaheim Hills Golf Course, located just a few minutes from Disneyland. The tree-lined, par-71 course offers beautiful, rolling terrain surrounded Spanish-Mediterranean architecture. If you're looking to just hit a few balls, the sheltered driving range lets you practice in any kind of weather.
There are other great courses in Central Orange County: Tustin Ranch Golf Club (12442 Tustin Ranch Rd., Tustin); Coyote Hills Golf Course (1440 E. Bastanchury Rd., Fullerton); and Strawberry Farms Golf Club (11 Strawberry Farm Rd., Irvine). For information, visit OCCgolf.com.
Have lunch at The Catch (2100 E. Katella Ave.), Anaheim's favorite sports-themed restaurant located right next to Angel Stadium. Try the Beefeater or the Roast Pork sandwich, then wash everything down with some artisan craft beer.
Catch a game at Angel Stadium (2000 Gene Autry Way), home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. During the off-season, take a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium including the press box and dugout (Tuesdays 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m.). Tours also take place during regular season when the Angels are out of town (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m.).
For NHL Hockey fans, Anaheim is Ducks country. The nearby Honda Center (2695 E. Katella Ave.) hosts professional hockey games as well as concerts, events and more.
Enjoy dinner at ESPN Zone restaurant (1545 Disneyland Dr.) in Downtown Disney. Here, you can catch up on all the latest scores at the Studio Grill, watch sports in the Screening Room with 16-foot HD screen and 12 36-inch monitors, or play arcade games in the Sports Arena totaling more than 10,000 square feet.
