Ruffing it in The OC

From happy hour at the dog park to designer fashions at the doggie boutique, there are plenty of places for four-legged friends to sniff around in Orange County.

Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach

Day Trip

7:30 a.m.

Pack up the pup and head to Orange County's only beach dedicated to dogs: Huntington Dog Beach. This mile-long beach is located in Huntington Beach between Seapoint Avenue and 21st Street. It's a great place for pooches to play with other dogs, swim in the surf and run around. Metered parking available. Bring a dog bowl and water with you.

9:00 a.m.

Drive two miles inland to Park Bench Café (17732 Goldenwest St., Huntington Beach), where you can order breakfast for yourself and food for your Fido. The special doggie menu includes lean ground turkey, ground beef, hot dogs and bacon bits.

11:00 a.m.

Head south on PCH to Fashion Island in Newport Beach. This upscale outdoor shopping center welcomes dogs on leashes and includes Muttropolis: A Utopia for Pets and Their Parents. Here, you'll find canine clothes, beds, toys, food, carriers and more.

12:30 p.m.

As long as you're at Fashion Island, take advantage of several canine-friendly restaurants on site. For lunch, Rustica California Wine Bistro presents dog-friendly patio dining. Café Beau Soleil serves up quiche, salads, seafood, steak and more in a casual, outdoor setting.

2:00 p.m.

Pamper your pet at Anything Canine (357 S. Coast Highway) in Laguna Beach, south of Newport Beach via PCH. Located near the boardwalk at Main Beach, they've got great bling and designer apparel for every doggie diva. A combination pet boutique, concierge service and dog spa, this cool boutique will groom your pet while you explore the shops and galleries of Laguna Beach.

3:00 p.m.

Puppy playtime continues in Laguna Beach. For off-leash adventures, drive a mile down Laguna Canyon Road to Laguna Beach Dog Park, open daily except Wednesdays.
